Chandigarh, January 19: Anindita Mitra today formally assumed charge as the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Punjab, marking a significant administrative development in the State’s electoral machinery. A 2007-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, Mitra brings with her rich administrative experience and a deep understanding of public governance.
Prior to her appointment as CEO, Punjab, Anindita Mitra served as the Administrative Secretary of the Department of School Education, Higher Education and Languages, Government of Punjab. During her tenure, she handled key policy and implementation responsibilities, earning recognition for her administrative acumen and institutional leadership.
After assuming charge, Anindita Mitra expressed gratitude for being entrusted with the responsibility of heading one of the most vital constitutional and democratic institutions in the State. She underscored that for over seven decades, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has played a pivotal role in strengthening India’s democratic framework by conducting free, fair and transparent elections, while continuously improving the accuracy and inclusiveness of electoral rolls.
She stated that the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, will function with unwavering commitment to democratic values and a voter-centric approach. Emphasising ease and accessibility for citizens, she said the focus will remain on ensuring smooth electoral processes at every stage—from voter registration to polling day.
- Anindita Mitra further highlighted that transparency, accessibility and strict adherence to the guidelines and standards prescribed by the Election Commission of India will remain top priorities. She also stressed that technology will continue to act as a key enabler in enhancing transparency, improving voter services, and ensuring efficient election management and operations across Punjab.
